A LIST TO BE “ENDURED”

Image Description: An illuminated open book, symbolizing the power of sound biblical doctrine, emits a brilliant, radiant light, dispelling darkness and pushing back menacing demons. This image perfectly embodies the theme of enduring challenges and embracing sound doctrine. SEO Keywords: Sound Doctrine, Biblical Teaching, Endurance, Spiritual Light, Darkness Dispelled, Demons Vanquished. A list to be endured.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate unto themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires” (2Timothy 4:3)

The following is a list of teachers and teaching that have remained faithful to sound biblical doctrine!

I have created the following list based on 2 Criteria:

1. I have actually read/listened to the teacher’s content. There are so many phenomenal teachers and books that I know should be on this list.  I just haven’t gotten to them yet. Until I do, I have chosen to leave them off this list.

2. They are my absolute favorites; the ones who have impacted my life the most thus far. There are many other teachers, books, and messages I have listened to that were very good…but they just weren’t my absolute favorites.

THOUGHTS ON FALSE TEACHING

1.  The Entire New Testament was written in less than 100 years following the death of Christ. It is comprised of 27 books(letters/scrolls). 26 out of those 27 dealt with false teachers and false teaching in some way. Now think about the fact that we are approximately 1900 years down the road now, with billions more people living on the earth, and we now have the ability to communicate and spread messages with anyone in the world within seconds. Can you imagine how much false teaching is now out there?? YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THE VAST MAJORITY OF “CHRISTIAN” TEACHING OUT THERE IS FALSE TEACHING!

2.  False teaching never sounds false. It always sounds right. It always sounds good. False teachers quote scripture. Remember, the devil disguises himself as an angel of light!

3.  The deceived never actually believe they are deceived.

4.  It only takes a little bit of destructive teaching to poison everything. Remember what is written… “a little leaven leavens the whole lump”(Galatians 5:9)

5.  When you see the masses loving and following the teaching of someone…that should at least be a warning sign. You need to evaluate their teaching and message with great discernment.

6.  Weak and Imbalanced teaching can be just as destructive as outright false teaching!

7.  The “HEALTH AND WEALTH” gospel is a FALSE GOSPEL! It teaches that Gods promise to every Christian is that they should be walking in perfect divine health, financial abundance, and prosperity in this life. It should be avoided at all costs. This is the fastest growing message of false teaching being spread throughout the world today.

8.  Many times, it is very easy to spot false teachers by simply “watching them”. Are they preaching or are they performing? Are they drawing people’s attention to themselves or to Christ. Are they preaching to get people “hyped up”? Do you see and sense a spirit of humility as you observe them? The most obvious examples of this would be men like Steven Furtick, T.D Jakes, and Mike Todd. These men are entertainers…not preachers.

9.  Another common way to discern false teaching in our age is that it’s focus is upon YOU! It is a “man-centered” message, rather than being Christ-centered. These messages often tell you how wonderful you are, how valuable you are, and how much greatness is within you. They tell you that you are inherently good! These messages focus on YOU, unlocking YOUR potential, your dreams, your destiny, etc… These are not the messages found in the Bible. In fact, the Bible teaches the exact opposite. The Word of God teaches that we are wicked and evil men in need of redemption, and the focus is always on Christ. There is no mention of our ambitions and desires and dreams and destinies. The message of the cross is continually laying down our life and dying to our self. It is a message of us becoming LESS – NOT MORE! Ask yourself, “What is the over-arching theme of this message I am listening to?”

10.  Lastly, avoid teaching that is encouraging you to focus on experiences, visions, dreams, and the supernatural. Jesus chastised his followers for this sort of behavior. If God so chooses to do something supernatural in your life, that is wonderful. But do not be caught up in seeking these things! Seek Him through humble obedience to His Word and prayer, and He will transform your entire being to be conformed to His image.

  1. I’m in the Northeast Houston area. My church is United City Church in Humble. It is a wonderful biblically solid church. Our lead pastor is Chris Kouba and all of our pastors are wonderful men who preach and teach God’s Word.

  2. new church in north texas frisco prosper celina areas
    their emphasis is expository preaching
    compass bible church
    and tamara is right
countryside bible church in southlake has the best biblical teaching

  3. Great article! It would have been nice to include locals as we need to come together as the body of Christ. The suggestions are all online but I have not checked them out to see if they have a brick and mortar location. Thank you for the warning we all need to hear.

  4. The damage the progressive liberal theology churches are doing to the GenZ individuals is beyond comprehension. All the New Testament guidance/teaching is out the window, and they are just encouraged to do what they want if it makes them happy, feels good, and is absent of NT teachings. They are running these young people’s lives and relationships and their eternity. These GenZ individuals need Biblical guidance, principles, and teaching more than any generation before.

  5. What church do you attend. What churches in rockwall or Dallas area do you believe are teaching and living the word

    1. Hey Amy, my family and I are currently searching for a church. We were at a local church for 20 years but recently had to make the difficult decision to leave. We have been impressed with Crosspoint church in Rockwall so far and also First Baptist Forney. I believe there are many others in the Dallas area that are probably great and doctrinally sound but we are hoping to find something a bit closer to home if possible.

  6. a local church with sound doctrine is e Bible Church in Southlake located on south side of 114 at Whites Chapel. The senior pastor, Tim Pennington, will celebrate his 20 years at the church on October 22,2023. He was in staff at John MacArthur’s church in Los Angele—Grace Bible church and continues to contribute to John’s ministry.

Come join us on Sunday mornings — we have 3 “identical” worship times—8am, 9:30am, and 11am.

  7. May I recommend Southlake Baptist Church in Southlake, TX and the solid, clear preaching Pastor Clay Reed delivers. He is a faithful shepherd.

  8. God bless those who are warning Christians of the scriptures we are witnessing. The greatest deception is within the church and God warned us. From Shepherds to Clowns…….what a perfect title. Truth, by nature is a divider…those who want it even if it is painful and those who only want the warm fuzzies.

  9. Thanks, Mike. Enjoyed your recent article in the Arlington Living Magazine. I’m curious, are you an Arlington resident or local to the area? You would LOVE hearing Dr. Dennis Wiles of First Baptist Church-Arlington. I was surprised he wasn’t on your list. Dr. Wiles is an incredible teacher/preacher of God’s Word and he’s a proven adherent of the Scriptures, right here in Arlington, Texas!

    1. hey Don, Thank you so much for the feedback and encouragement!! I am actually on the east side of Dallas in the Rockwall/Heath area. Love to hear that Arlington has a solid preacher staying to the Word!! Blessings Brother!!

  10. These are some solid teachers, however we must remember that anything good these guys have to share comes from Gods Word and what these teachers are sharing is pre- chewed food. We can go straight to the source, the Bible.

But I do agree we need good pastors and teachers and these are some good ones, especially Paul Washer.

  11. The classic book by Hannah Whitall Smith The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life, written in 1875, was transformational in my first years as a believer, as it helped me to understand that my will was the most important part of my tripartite being, and should run the show so to speak, and not my feelings, as long as it was lined up with God’s will.

    1. I enjoyed your article “From Shepards to clowns”. Comparitively speaking, not near enough pastors teach the difficult truth of the Bible. Could not agree more.

Suprised your list does not include Chuck Swindoll.

Steve Farrar is a personal favorite.

      1. Thank you Michael…I know there are so many good ones not on here yet!! Ive heard of Farrar but not listened to him before. Of course Swindoll has been around forever!! Thank you for the recommendations!!

  12. Excellent information to share Mike. I am so proud of you and thrilled that you are leading your family and others in such a Godly way. Give Tiffany a hug for me.

    1. Wow, are you a fellow Anglican? The liturgical calendar along with the feast days are all important in following the life of Christ & understanding The Church always was, always will be in charge of time! 🙌🏼 Truth, goodness & beauty reside in Christ alone.
The Lord bless you & keep you.
